Event Description
In the spring of 2004 the anti-capitalist Spartacus Bookstore was burnt to the
ground, only to be resurrected again right next to its former home on Hastings
Street. Since February 5th 2006 it has been officially opened to the public and is
again serving the larger community.
On the other hand there is radical folky-country singer JOEY ONLY, that would be me.
In the last year I played numerous concerts in no less than six provinces, eight
major urban Canadian centres, and dozens of smaller cities, towns, trains, streets
and protests while recieving radio airplay in three continents!! At many of those
shows I was able to put on three and four sets of music, sometimes playing for three
hours or more in towns like Toronto, Peterborough, Edmonton, Whitehorse, Ottawa and
whatnot. But not once had I ever put on a real showcase of the songs I have written
and consistently covered in the city I still live in....Vancouver.
On March 3rd we aim to change that!! I am bringing together my bandmates, friends,
record label comrades, and associates to put on an unparrelled political show for
you. Bass players Richmond Ranch Rick and James Forrest are rumoured to be on stage
to play them covers I love such as..Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie, and
more.
On stage with me you will meet David Roy Parsons, who first helped me produce my
music as we sing some of his best loved songs. Andy Mason appears extensively on my
RADICAL FOLK CD, he is Mohawk folksinger who will join me with his mandolin to
showcase some of the songs we have played together. Then there is Luka, a veteran
folksinger who never was recognized for the amazingly radical folk songs she has
written. Christina Zaenker is a fabulous cello player, with her I will pull out
some of the slower sadder songs and tunes that I have never played for an audience
before. Tamara Nile is also likely to join me, another talented folk singer who can
be seen with her guitar or banjo. We will all be showcasing my original songs, my
friends original songs, and yet more..more..more.
Come and hear a good three hour concert, complete with refreshments available.
Again, half the proceeds raised will go back to the Spartacus Bookstore to help keep
its rent and bills paid up.
