Event Description
Join MoCL on Saturday, March 22nd (11-2PM) for "of body": Sand Play Workshop led by artist Paloma Callo!
This event is free, no sign-up required! Meet at siʔčə́ŋəɬ, or what is widely referred to as Willows Beach, in front of the Oak Bay Kiwanis tea room.
Message from Paloma about Sand Play:
"Sand Play is an invitation to play outside and notice our sensory experience of natural materials. We will gather at Willows Beach and explore a variety of invitations individually and as a group. In art and play therapy, the Sand Tray (like a little sand box) is a well-loved container through which to explore worldbuilding, storytelling, impermanent art, and safe sensory stimulation.
Sand Play is an expansion of the tray. The shore invites us to be curious and mindful about how our surroundings inform the creative process. I look forward to joining in this opportunity for play and exploration!"
About Paloma:
"I'm a painter, musician, writer, filmmaker, dancer, and a relational + somatic wellness practitioner who was born and raised on Lək̓ʷəŋən land. My ancestral lines are Irish and Peruvian. In July 2024 I completed a postgraduate degree in art therapy from the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute. My personal creative practice often revisits matters of body, spirit, space, natural law, relationship, liberation, and mindfulness around materials and sensory experience."
