Event Description

Thursday, June 19 at Ship Point
All Ages/FREE/Beverage Service for 19 yrs w/ID

Victoria’s 26th Ska & Reggae Festival rolls on with another incredible free show at picturesque Ship Point! Ranging from dancehall reggae to energetic ska punk, this show has something for everyone.

Headlining the event is one of Jamaica’s hottest artists of the 21st century, Turbulence. Born Sheldon Campbell in Kingston, Jamaica, the powerhouse singer is known for his conscious lyrics and impactful delivery. Blending the rebelliousness of reggae with the energetic vibe of dancehall, his music often addresses poverty, injustice, spirituality, and love, drawing inspiration from his personal life and observations of the world.

Returning to Victoria Ska and Reggae Fest for the first time in 15 years is La Severa Matacera. We originally had them in 2006 and 2009 so this year’s comeback is long overdue! One of Colombia’s most beloved underground bands of the past 30 years, the group’s blend of ska, reggae, and punk has made them legions of fans in both their home country and abroad.

Making their Ska and Reggae Festival debut is The Spiritual Warriors.Inspired by the land and life in the coast mountains of the Lil'wat Nation, the group blends Indigenous chants and reggae riddims with a distinctly west-coast flair. Expect uplifting grooves and beautiful harmonies sung bilingually in English and U'cwalmicwts, the Lil'wat Language.

Both opening the show and backing up Turbulence is Sonic Alley, Victoria’s hottest new reggae supergroup. Spearheaded by reggae lifer and roaring vocalist, Caleb Hart, this multicultural ensemble brings an unparalleled level of energy and world-class musicianship to every performance.

Keeping the vibes hot between acts is Ari Dublion, the host of The PowTown GetDown Radio show on CJMP in qathet, BC, broadcast also on Comox Valley’s CVOX Radio. A committed reggae soldier, Ari has brought his DJ sets to clubs, beach parties, and festival stages all across BC and beyond.
