Event Description
Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering, Open Stage 7:30pm, Feature Performer Fraser Union at 9pm, 1110 Hillside Avenue, $8 cash, Everyone welcome!
Since their founding in early 1980s Vancouver, Fraser Union has been singing and playing and connecting deeply with their audiences, especially the ones who love to join in on a chorus — like us! Their songs come from folk roots and draw heavily on Canadian sources, reflecting the diversity of our cultures, our histories, and our contemporary concerns.
Fraser Union has evolved significantly over the decades but has aways stayed focused on songs of people's struggles and triumphs and on the joys of singing together. At the dawn of 2023, the group is once again a trio: Barry Truter (vocals, guitar, octave mandolin, and more), Kathy Griffin (vocals, guitar, percussion), and founding member, Roger Holdstock (vocals, mandolin, and guitar). Together, they create an accompanied harmonic blend for an ever-evolving repertoire while staying true to their passion for meaningful music sung in community.
With four past albums of song— This Old World, From There To Here, Hello Stranger, and B.C. Songbook: Songs of Canada’s West Coast — the group is now looking forward to releasing their new EP.
Come prepared to be moved….and to sing!!
