Event Description
Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering; A special evening of merriment and dancing at a Midwinter Ceilidh (no jam or open stage tonight) 7:30pm; Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue; $8 cash; Everyone welcome!
The dark of winter is upon us, and what better way to lift our spirits than to throw a Midwinter Ceilidh? Bring your dancing shoes, some potluck finger-food to share, and a whole lot of seasonal cheer to the first year-end party we’ve been able to have since 2019 – and what a pleasure to be back together again!
The Morris Dancers will open the evening with their traditional bell-bedecked appearance, getting everyone in the mood for dancing, followed by
Shinndig, the new group re-formed from members of the much-loved band, RIG-A-JIG.
Featuring Ian Johnston on guitar, Dick Pollard on fiddle, Patty Castle on bass, and Karen Gillmore on a whole host of other instruments, Shindig plays a heady mixture of Celtic, English, and Old-Time dance tunes, sure to get your toes tapping and and your feet heading for the dance floor! There will also be a Caller to provide the dancing instructions, so even if you’ve never danced before, you’ll know what to do. And if you’re not into dancing, there’s plenty of room to just hang out, catch up with friends, and nosh on the finger-food goodies along with the tea, coffee, and mulled cider provided by the club.
Come one, come all and share in the joy of the season!
