How else could we kick off Victoria's 23rd Annual Ska & Reggae Festival other than welcoming one of the biggest, coolest reggae bands in the world to our main stage for a FREE kick-off show? New Zealand's THREE HOUSES DOWN feat. GENERAL FIYAH finally makes their Victoria debut and we could hardly be more excited. A 10-piece reggae powerhouse that features otherworldly harmonies, deeply groovy melodies and a banging brass section, Three Houses Down is a true force live. Just like our festival, the band was born out of family and the connecting power of music. With nearly two decades of delighting ears and recharging souls under their belt, it's about damned time this incredible band hits the Victoria Ska & Reggae Fest stage.
One of Canada’s brightest reggae acts STEELE & THE MOB SQUAD will be joining us for this opening night reggae party. The three-time Juno Aware nominee, Jamaican-born Steele is one of the genres most dynamic vocalists and songwriters, is now regarded as one of the most consistent reggae artist to call Canada home, his music transcends all ages, gender and color. Over the years he has made an indelible imprint on reggae music-loving audiences across Canada with appearances at various venues in most major cities in the country. We're also very stoked on another festival debut as we welcome Ontario's STREET PHARMACY. Established in 2006 by Métis singer, guitarist and primary songwriter, Ryan Guay, Street Pharmacy mixes together the honesty of 90s alternative rock, reggae grooves and lightening fast lyrical flow reminiscent of golden age hip hop to forge a unique blend of reggae-jam rock that has kept their fans enthralled for over a decade. Kicking off our 23rd year with the power of reggae is one Vancouver Islands best keepers of the culture as CHEKO & THE POZITIVE REBELLION hit the stage to get the party started in true reggae style.
Come one, come all, as we join together once again welcome the world to the heart of our beautiful city and celebrate the power of musical community. Everyone is welcome as we kick off what is set to a truly special year indeed.
