Event Description
HMCS QUADRA CEREMONY OF THE FLAGS CONTINGENT
COMOX, BC. — 250 teenaged air and sea cadets from Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) QUADRA will march from Cormorant Street to the BC Legislature Lawn on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 7:30PM, as part of their annual Ceremony of the Flags performance.
The Cadets come from across Canada and are 14 – 18 years old. They’ve been practicing since July 9th for this performance, often referred to as the pinnacle of cadet performances across Canada. Accompanying them this year will be 18 International Exchange Cadets from Australia, Sweden, South Korea, and the U.K.
The distinctly Canadian Ceremony of the Flags was originally created and performed by the Royal Canadian Navy in 1967 to celebrate Canada’s Centennial. The ceremony combines elements of the ancient ceremonies of The Tattoo, Sunset Ceremony and Retreat and is a showcase of military precision, pageantry and discipline
HMCS QUADRA is a Cadet Summer Training Centre in Comox, BC. The training centre is currently host to 600 cadets undergoing 2, 3, 6 or 8 week training courses, supervised by over 200 staff cadets and Canadian Forces members
Sea Cadets is a national youth program for boys and girls aged 12 – 18, jointly sponsored by the Department of National Defense/Canadian Forces and the civilian Navy League of Canada.
